Get to Know the Faces Behind VIRIDIS Fund Solutions – Meet Joaquin Calderon

Joaquin Calderon

At VIRIDIS Fund Solutions, our people play an important role in the work we do every day. Each member of the team brings their own experience and perspective to their role, while working together to support our clients and each other.

In this employee spotlight, we’re excited to introduce Joaquin Calderon, a Senior Fund Accountant who works closely with clients and the broader VIRIDIS team to support the day-to-day accounting and reporting needs of the funds we administer.

What first sparked your interest in financial services, and what has kept you in the industry?

I originally started college as a finance major with a focus on investments. Growing up, I always kept up with current events and was interested in seeing how they influenced the markets. That interest has stayed with me throughout my career. Working in fund accounting keeps me close to the financial markets and gives me a reason to stay current on what is happening. I’ve also learned a tremendous amount since entering the industry, and I continue to learn something new every day.

Can you walk us through what a typical day looks like in your role?

My day can look very different depending on where we are in the quarter or year. On an average day, I record and review recent transactions and make sure everything is accurately reflected for the funds I support. My focus shifts at the beginning of each quarter, when I spend more time preparing financial statements for the previous quarter. This includes making necessary entries, preparing supporting schedules and calculations, and coordinating with the rest of the team to deliver accurate, high-quality work to our clients on time.

What aspect of your job do you find most rewarding?

I really enjoy solving problems, especially when something comes up that we haven’t seen before. Not every transaction or situation is straightforward, so it can be interesting to dig into the details, understand what’s happening and work with the team to figure out the right solution. Those situations also give me an opportunity to keep learning and build on my experience. It’s always rewarding when you can take something that initially seems complicated, work through it and get to a solution that makes sense for the fund and the client.

What stands out to you about the culture at VIRIDIS?

Everyone at VIRIDIS is very friendly and always willing to help each other out. There’s a lot of mutual respect across the team, which makes it easy to collaborate, ask questions and get another perspective when you need it. I also really appreciate how accessible the leadership team is. There’s a lot of transparency, and I feel comfortable reaching out to anyone, whether I have a question, need some guidance or just want to have a conversation.

What have you learned during your career that has shaped the way you approach your work?

Two of the biggest lessons I’ve learned are the importance of time management and communication. When you’re managing several funds, there are always different priorities and deadlines to keep track of, so I’ve learned to plan ahead and make sure I’m giving each responsibility the time it needs.

I’ve also learned that good communication makes everything easier. Priorities can change quickly, and staying in touch with the team helps everyone know what needs attention and where we may need to adjust. It also means being comfortable asking questions or speaking up when you need help. When everyone communicates well, we can work more efficiently as a team and make sure nothing gets overlooked.

What is your favorite way to unwind after a busy week?

I love spending time with my friends, especially after a busy week. Whether we’re going to the movies, catching a soccer game or just hanging out at someone’s house, I enjoy having the chance to relax and spend time together. It’s a great way to recharge and catch up while getting in a few laughs.

We can go further, together.
