At VIRIDIS, we pride ourselves on the caliber of our team. Every team member contributes to our clients’ success, upholding our core values of Integrity, Insight, and Ingenuity.
We would like to introduce you to the faces behind VIRIDIS by highlighting one of our great employees each quarter. This quarter, get to know Katelyn Bottner, a Director in our Fund Accounting group.
How did your first job out of college lead you to VIRIDIS, and what is your role here?
My career began in public accounting right after college which provided me with broad exposure to accounting fundamentals. While it was a good experience, I realized that I wanted to specialize in an industry and see the full accounting cycle. Fast forward to today, I have seen many (many) accounting cycles and am currently a Director in the Fund Accounting group. In this role, I oversee a team responsible for the financial reporting for several private funds.
What do you enjoy most about working at VIRIDIS?
I enjoy working in the alternative investment industry. While there are elements that follow a routine with predictable cycles, there is always a certain amount of change that keeps the work fresh and challenging. Whether it is adapting to new regulations, navigating complex transactions, or finding creative solutions to intricate challenges, there is always something new to learn.
Describe the company culture.
The environment at VIRIDIS is fast-paced and collaborative. It is exciting to be part of a company that offers opportunities to learn. What I find particularly rewarding is having the opportunity to share my knowledge with my team.
If you could speak to your younger self, what career advice would you give her?
I would tell my younger self to look for opportunities to learn in every task, even those which become routine. Each task, no matter how small, contributes to building a stronger skill set. I’d also emphasize the importance of relationships. Relationships are an important part of any career and play a crucial role in personal and professional growth.
What is the one weekend activity you enjoy most?
On weekends, I love getting outdoors with my husband and kids for hiking adventures. Our hikes often lead us to a lake or pond where my kids can enjoy their favorite activity—fishing! We always try to incorporate the activity into our hikes, making the weekends a relaxing and family-filled adventure.
